Bedford Produce Automation Now Available for Green Onions

Bedford recently released a new version of its Tag Tyer™ machine, which makes tagging green onions faster and more sustainable.
The machine automatically applies TagTies™, eliminating hand application of twist ties, tags, and Bedford’s own Bib Ties®. It tags up to 15 bunches per minute. TagTies is a spool of twist tie and a spool of the grower’s custom-printed tag, which uses less materials than other similar methods as it cuts the exact amount of tie needed per bundle size.
Tag Tyer features direct product handling, allowing machine operators to prepare the next green onion bundle while the machine cycles, resulting in more efficient and easier bundling. Operators can use it in the field or packing shed, as it’s built with both dusty and wet conditions in mind and is wash-down friendly.

The machine also works for leeks with a simple head changeover. More commodities are expected in the future.
“Before Tag Tyer, growers had few options when it came to automating the fresh produce tagging process,” said Jay Milbrandt, Bedford President. “We’ve worked closely with several large growers to build and refine this machine into exactly what the industry needs and are excited about its success in the field.”
